WAIAWA NAVY WATERLINE PROJECT
PROJECT OVERVIEW
On March 29, 2019, the Navy awarded a $48 million firm-fixed price contract for the Waiawa Waterline Project to Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company (HDCC), Inc., to be managed by Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Hawaii.
The project will commence on August 12, 2019 and has an anticipated completion of the Winter of 2024.
Current Situation
Natural elements, wear-and-tear, and overall age have all brought the existing waterline, built in 1953, to the end of its useful life. As the outdated pipes continues to deteriorate, an unplanned, substantial break to any part of the aged waterline could cause significant impacts to the public as well as Joint Base Pearl
Harbor-Hickam.
The Solution
HDCC will install a new replacement transmission waterline which will extend from the northern-end of Waihona Street, and tie into the existing water main near Lehua Avenue. The project also includes two smaller lines that will provide for a continuation of service to the Manana Housing Area, as well as a fire line reconnection for the Hawaii Army National Guard facility. The old waterlines, pipe supports, and valve vaults will be abandoned-in-place or removed.
The goal of this project is to ensure the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and its Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Soldiers, civilian employees, and residents continue to receive safe and reliable drinking water.
